My PhD research is done in collaboration with the Danish Emigration Archives and Aalborg University. I will spend the next three years investigating the migration- and integration processes in relation to the Danish emigration to America from approx. 1850-1920 and to Australia after WW2. This project therefore turns the current Danish news debate about immigration upside-down and examines the DANE as both an emigrant and an immigrant, including how Danes are integrated in foreign societies and how Danish identity is maintained or dissolved throughout generations.
